South African rugby rocked by a sex scandal.

Elton Jantjies, the 31-year-old star Springbok fly-half with 46 Tests to his credit, has issued a humiliating apology for having noisy sex with a woman in a guest house close to the rugby ground  — where he was playing a crucial match for his country.   Last week he was dropped and from the South African national rugby team and sent home from Argentina as the scandal unfolded.  So too was the team’s very attractive physiotherapist Zeenat Simjee. Now, though, after a week of silence that she says “severely traumatised” her,  she has claimed it was not her who was in Jantjies’ guest house bedroom.

Jantjies was also recently arrested and charged with aggressive behaviour on an aircraft.  He banged on a toilet door for ten minutes, witnesses said, till his fists bled, while calling out “Come on my treasure” in Afrikaans.  An air hostess emerged from the toilet when Jantjies was eventually ushered back to his business class seat.

In his statement about the sexual encounters Jantjies, who is married to a gorgeous beauty queen, said Simjee was “nothing more than a good friend”.  But the Springbok’s wife has told a newspaper she plans to dump him.

Jantjies did not deny that a sexual encounter with a woman happened at that guesthouse — which he eventually left without paying the full bill.

He stated: “I apologise unreservedly to everybody I hurt or disappointed, my teammates, the Springbok management team, and SA Rugby. I also want to apologise to the management and squad of my club in Japan, NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes.

I sadly let myself, my family, and the rugby-loving people of this country down, and I deeply regret my actions. I did not do the Springbok jersey proud. I take full responsibility for my actions, and I am serious about doing everything in my power to change my behaviour. I want to restore the confidence those closest to me once had in me and win back the trust of the public. I hope that I can rebuild those relationships that got damaged or broken.”
