A new drug may be key breakthrough in curing Covid. It’s said to have cured 29 of 30 moderate to serious COVID cases in days.

Doctors in Tel Aviv have tested drugs that they say will stop the body killing itself in a terrible overreaction to a Covid virus invasion. British doctors say a large proportion of Covid deaths are caused by this body response.

In a ‘huge breakthrough’ ,  Ichilov Hospital director Roni Gamzu said the research “gives us all confidence in the method.”

Researchers say 29 of 30 patients  who’ve received the treatment left hospital within 3 to 5 days. The other patient also survived.

Hailing a “huge breakthrough,” the hospital said the drug goes directly into the lungs so it does not affect the other organs of the body.

The medicine battles the cytokine storm — when the body’s immune system is sent into overdrive by the invading Covid virus cells and wrecks the body in the process.

It uses a protein on the surface of the body’s cells called exosomes — tiny sacs that shuttle materials between cells — to deliver a protein called CD24 to the lungs.

Though it’s only just been applied to Covid patients, a doctor at the hospital has been researching the properties of this cell for decades.

Doctors make the patients inhale the concoction once a day for a few minutes. They say it usually works without side-effects.

Gamzu, the former head of Israel’s coronavirus programme, said the research “gives confidence in the method that may bring a blue and white remedy to a terrible global pandemic.”

Blue and white are the colours of the Israeli flag.

Israel is way ahead of the rest of the world in applying vaccines to its citizens. However its much-vaunted scientists have so far failed to develop their own vaccine.
